Our second Open House Event with the theme ‘New Roots’ took place on Sunday 26th July 2020. We were very pleased that a Syrian classical guitarist living locally was able to take part in this event. By popular request we had a presentation on Palestinian Dabke dance and a video presentation on Palestinian hospitality. We again had a session of participatory art, this time using the imagery of trees and roots. Here is a picture produced by one of the participants inspired by the event:

Again, this was a wonderfully warm and connecting event, and here is some of the feedback we received:

“Joining the spirit of peace event gives me hope for a good future where people feel a deep commitment to people beyond family, tribe, immediate community, nation etc. the event was profound” (Open House: New Roots participant)

Our launch event of 14th June 2020 was transitioned into an online event.

We were delighted to launch the first Arts at the Intersection Open House event in partnership with Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees, Sevenoaks Unitarians, Unity Music and Art for Health. The event was originally planned to take place in Sevenoaks to bring different cultures within the community.

Due to Covid-19, we produced an online event, which also enabled people from across the UK and abroad to attend. The warmth and connection participants experienced during the event was stunning. The feedback we have received encourages us to continue, for example:

A very inspirational integration of cultural sharing and understanding. I enjoyed it all. The musical instruments echoing back and forth, the poetry, the art, the language, the cook book, stories ... sharing ... and the room shares. Lovely blend of cultures merging. Thank you.
